Why it is here: nothing else makes a combo feel this good. If you only play one skate game, play this.
2Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 + 4

EA's return to the series, set in an always-online open city called San Vansterdam. It keeps the Flick-It controls that made the original skate games famous: the right stick is your feet, so a kickflip is a flick, not a button. It is free-to-play and paid for with cosmetics, with cross-play and cross-progression. At the time of writing it is still in early access with seasonal updates; a mobile version has been promised but has no date.
Why it is here: the most realistic-feeling big-budget skate game, and it costs nothing to try.
4Session: Skate Sim

8Skate 3
